Mercedes 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé Reborn

History of a Legend

The story of the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé began in 1955, when Daimler-Benz made two road-legal coupés based on the 300 SLR. These Coupé versions of the 300 SLR are also know as, the Uhlenhaut Coupé after its designer and Daimler-Benz motorsport chief Rudolf Uhlenhaut. One of these two cars was used as the personal car of Rudolf Uhlenhaut in period. In the 1950's the 300 SLR coupe was a car of advance design, technology and of great performance. With a maximum speed approaching 290 km/h (180 mph) the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé earned the reputation of being the fastest road car of its day. Because of the SLR's cutting edge performance in period and the fact that only two coupés were ever made, makes the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut of great importance and of extreme rarity. A motorcar so rare that it is an unobtainable dream car to have even for the top automobile collectors and connoisseurs. Of the two Uhlenhaut Coupés built, one has been preserved by Mercedes-Benz and is displayed at its corporate museum. Its only sibling was sold from the museum in May 2022 to a private collector for the sum of $142 million dollars. The price was the highest ever paid for a car, either at private sale or auction. It also surpassed the Ferrari 250 GTO at $75 Million the most expensive car ever sold before the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut.
