History of BAT “Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica”

The Alfa Romeo BAT or “Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica” are a series of three concept cars. As stated in the name Aerodinamica ( Italian for Aerodynamic) these concept cars were developed to have the lowest possible drag coefficient. With the most aerodynamic being BAT 7 with a drag coefficient of just 0.19. Making BAT 7 one of the most
aerodynamic cars even to this day! The origin of these cars started with a joint collaboration project between Alfa Romeo and Bertone that began in 1953. The designer for all three cars was the great Franco Scaglione. He is most well known for the design of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. The first car in the BAT series was the 1953 BAT 5 seen in the image to the right. BAT 5 was followed by another two BAT concepts, BAT 7 of 1954 and lastly the BAT 9 of 1955. These three BAT cars 5, 7 & 9 are not only  impressive for having great aerodynamics, but most importantly for being a truly futuristic and awe-inspiring sight! If they are still bewildering now just imagine when they were first shown in the 1950's! The BAT cars stunning design and large tail fins makes them look like fighter jets even compared to modern cars of today! There is almost nothing that comes close to any of the BAT cars in terms of design or aerodynamics. For these two reasons of great aerodynamics and phenomenal styling the “Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica” cars are of such great importance in the history of the automobile.
